Why Are We Here?
We are here to worship the Triune God
Our God is an awesome God, He is the Almighty and everlasting God. Beside Him there is no
other. He is our Creator and all glory, honor and praise is due to Him alone.. In His word, the
Holy Bible, there is a clear understanding of who God is and who we are. We recognize a vast
difference between the Creator and creation. Yet through the gospel of His Son Jesus Christ we
are brought into fellowship with this great God.
"Oh come, let us sing to the Lord! Let us shout joyfully to the Rock of our salvation. Let us come
before His presence with thanksgiving; let us shout joyfully to Him with psalms. For the Lord is
the great God, and the great King above all gods. In His hands are the deep places of the earth;
the heights of the hills are His also. The sea is His, for He made it; and His hands formed the dry
land. Oh come, let us worship and bow down; let us kneel before the Lord our Maker. For He is
our God, and we are the people of His pasture, and the sheep of His hand."
-- PSALM 95.1-7
We do not take His sovereign reign lightly. We believe our God is no mere spectator but is
indeed active in all of nature and the affairs of man.
In humility we recognize from His word that it is God the Father who calls His sheep, it is God the Son who has redeemed them by His blood,
and it is God the Holy Spirit who works in the hearts of fallen man to bring them to a saving faith.
His grace is most definitely an amazing grace! We respond to the Rock of our salvation each
Lord's Day with worship, prayer, singing and thanksgiving.
We are here to study and teach His holy word
We have a high view of scripture. We believe it to be inerrant, infallible and authoritative. He has
revealed His will to mankind in both the Old and New Testaments - for this reason our Pastor
preaches from both Testaments each Sunday to prepare the saints for service to our Lord.
Though times and cultures change, we find firm footing on the never changing word of God. We
recognize the need to endeavor to hold fast to the orthodox and historical Christianity that is
expressed in the Bible.
"Beloved, while I was very diligent to write to you concerning our common salvation, I found it
necessary to write to you exhorting you to contend earnestly for the faith which was once for all
delivered to the saints."
-- JUDE 3
As we look to His word to define our faith we find many solid principles. These principles are laid
out by historic creeds such as the Apostles' Creed and the Nicene Creed, and summarized in
the Westminster Confession of Faith and the Larger and Shorter Catechisms.
These creeds and confessions are helpful to us as we look at the whole of God's word (not just one or two verses).
We encourage the study and use of these creeds and confessions to keep us in accord with
sound doctrine. Though these writings of men are not inspired as the Bible we believe these
doctrines to be Biblically correct.
"And He Himself gave some to be apostles, some prophets, some evangelists, and some pastors
and teachers, for the equipping of the saints for the work of ministry,
for the edifying of the body of Christ, till we all come to the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to a
perfect man, to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ; that we we should no longer
be children, tossed to and fro and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the trickery of
men, in the cunning craftiness of deceitful plotting, but, speaking the truth in love, may grow up
in all things into Him who is the Head - Christ."
-- EPHESIANS 4.11-15
We are here to grow according to His will
We look forward to the growth of God's kingdom both in the universal Church and here at Christ Covenant. We pray and witness to this very end, that
He may increase the size and depth of His Church.
It is our desire to involve and edify those who gather with us to worship in spirit and truth.
"Therefore, beloved, looking forward to these things, be diligent to be found by Him in peace,
without spot and blameless ... grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus
Christ. To Him be the glory both now and forever. Amen"
-- ll PETER 3.14,18
We pray that you will find value in these words. We encourage you to consider your salvation
before our Lord and we hope that Christ Covenant Reformed may be of service to you for His
glory.
