Since the foundation of an ordered and civilized society rests upon an understanding of and an obedience to God's revelation as recorded in the scriptures of both Old and New Covenant texts, it behooves us to consider the application of the covenantal requirements demanded of those who claim the Triune God as Lord and Savior. The setting apart of one day in seven for a holy rest and joyful worship goes back to the dawn of time when the Lord God rested on the seventh day from His labor of creation. This covenantal requirement became the Law of God when the Ten Commandments were revealed to and through Moses.
Under the administration of the Old Covenant, the seventh day of the week was the ordinary day set aside for rest and worship. However, in the new administration of Jesus Christ, the first day of the week became the established opportunity to savor a hint of the coming heavenly rest at the end of the age. Our purpose here is not to debate the obvious administrative covenantal change to the celebration of the Lord's Day, but to examine anew how we may honor the word's of our Lord Jesus Christ in this regard. So let us take seriously the injunction of our Lord when He commends the day to us in these words:
"The Sabbath was made for man, and not man for the Sabbath. Therefore the Son of Man is also Lord of the Sabbath." Mark 2: 27-28
Following are several sermons concerning our responsibilities to demonstrate the fruits of the Spirit given to us in and through the saving and sanctifying process. May the Lord bless you within His will in all ways, always.
