The
Great Covenant
From the Father - through the Son - by
the Spirit!
|
"I will take you as My people, and I will be your
God. Then you shall know that I am the Lord your God who brings you out
from under the burdens of the Egyptians. And I will bring you into the
land which I swore to give to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob; and I will give
it to you as a heritage: I am the Lord." |
The God of heaven has consistently spoken through
His prophets, priests and kings to tell all of mankind of their need for His
only Son, Jesus Christ our Lord. Centuries before the Son of Man appeared in our
midst, the law of God was revealed by the God the Father, through the
foundational covenant instituted at Mount Sinai under the ministry of Moses.
This covenantal treaty between God and His own people was ratified again at the
end of Moses’ life just before the people finally entered into the land of
promise under the leadership of Joshua. The Book of DEUTERONOMY
is just as it proposes to be, the final commentary of Moses on the law of God
summarized for ratification and acceptance by the new generation entering into
the land of promise.
The preaching purpose of the series before us is to
survey and outline the relationship of the Old Covenant with the promised
Messiah whose mediation is so vital and necessary for our salvation. A thorough
knowledge of the background of redemptive history will better prepare us to
accept the New administration of that Great Covenant by God's only Son: Jesus
Christ. To Him alone be the glory in this present age and in the world to come.
Amen!
